Cole Hamels no-hits the Cubs

Cole Hamels of the Phillies eliminated all of the bad taste from his last two starts out of scouts’ mouths on Saturday when he no-hit the Chicago Cubs. It’s the third no-hitter of the 2015, the 13th in Phillies history, and the second Hamels has been involved in following last year’s combined no-hitter by the Phillies on Labor Day in Atlanta.

This was the first time in an astounding 7,920 games that the Cubs had been no-hit, which is just insane to think about. It’s also the fourth no-hitter caught by Carlos Ruiz, tying Jason Varitek for the most of all-time.

Hamels had an extraordinary start against Chicago on Saturday, punching out 13 and walking just two during his no-hitter.

Of course, it wasn’t necessary easy for Hamels – Odubel Herrera misplayed the final out and nearly turned it into a hit.

I’m sure Ruben Amaro is thrilled at this turn of events – Hamels’ trade value just went through the roof.
