Singers can’t catch breaks at baseball events these days.
Actor Corey Feldman, known prominently for roles in Lost Boys and The Goonies, was singing at an event for the State College Spikes, a Short Season-A affilate of the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night, and apparently things didn’t go so well.
Here’s video of the incident, where Feldman is cosplaying as Michael Jackson and basically mumbling his way through a song, all while his fellow bandmates are dressed in angel outfits. Warning – it’s very bizarre.
So who didn’t watch all four minutes of that? As the serious investigative journalist that I am, I sacrificed and made it through the whole thing. Skip to 1:57 if you want to see Feldman do a breakdance solo for 30 seconds. Other than that, it’s all quite sad.
The Spikes released a statement following the event, apologizing for Feldman’s conduct, saying the content may have been offensive.
The State College Spikes would like to apologize to our fans for Corey Feldman’s appearance last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. While the nature of the appearance was not what we had anticipated for the evening, we would like to apologize to all fans who may have been offended by its content. We would also like to apologize to our fans for the appearance being so far below expectations.
We at the Spikes thank you for your support, and we pledge to present the best entertainment each and every night for the remainder of the 2015 season and beyond.
The kicker is the last sentence in paragraph one. Apologizing to the fans is one thing, calling out the appearance for being “so far below expectations,” is kind of hilarious. What did they expect? They hired a washed-up, 44-year-old actor who’s not known for singing.
Something else must have happened behind the scenes, because from the video, nothing – aside from Feldman’s singing and dancing skills – were offensive. Yes they weren’t good, but were they bad enough that a team had to issue out a formal apology? I don’t think so.
Corey Feldman responded to the statement on Twitter.
@NovaSinclare @Complex_Sports thank U! I've never been so offended! The article and the team! It was the most unprofessional event I've done
