Toronto Blue Jays first round pick Marcus Stroman, who ESPN's Keith Law said should be in the majors this September for the Blue Jays, has been suspended 50 games for PED use. The substance Stroman tested positive for was reportedly methylhexaneamine, which is a dietary supplement.
Stroman, drafted 22nd overall by Toronto out of Duke University, was working as a reliever in the minors since being drafted. In 19 1/3 innings, Stroman had a 3.26 ERA, striking out 23 and walking nine. He got a $1.8 million bonus when he signed.
There was also another suspension of a former first round pick today, as Josh Sale of the Rays was knocked 50 games for meth use…just like his teammates last week. Sale was the 17th overall pick in the 2010 draft by Tampa Bay, and got a $1.62 million bonus when signing. For low-A Bowling Green this year, Sale has an .855 OPS, homering ten times, stealing seven bases, and walking nearly as often as he's struck out.
