Colorado Rockies outfield prospect David Dahl was the 10th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, and has been a top 100 prospect in each of the next three seasons. But he’s been swamped by injuries throughout his pro career, playing in a total of just 240 games over those three-plus seasons.
On Thursday during AA New Britain’s game with Altoona, Dahl was involved in an outfield collision that lacerated his spleen.
Dahl’s father made some comments to the Mobile Press-Register.
“They’re trying to save the spleen,” Dahl said. “There was a collision between him and the second baseman, and he took a knee to the spleen. They’re just trying to save it now. He got hit in the face, the nose, the spleen, a bunch of different places, but that’s the main thing right now. He probably has a minor concussion, I would imagine, because he doesn’t remember much about what happened. No broken bones or nothing — all the CT scans were negative.”
The good news is that Dahl came through the surgery OK. The bad news is that his season is over.
