After the blockbuster trade sending Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, and Nick Punto was completed this morning, Gonzalez, Beckett, and Punto headed out west on a chartered jet in time for Saturday's game with the Marlins. Gonzalez was in the starting lineup for the Dodgers, batting fourth, and he took the second pitch he saw from Josh Johnson way out to right field for a three-run homer.
Meanwhile in Boston, Gonzalez's immediate replacement Mauro Gomez went 4/6 with a homer and three RBI. The homer was the first of Gomez's career. Interesting to see him in the starting lineup instead of James Loney, who came to Boston from Los Angeles in the trade. On a one game basis, this is working out decently for both teams…but tihs is a deal that is going to be judged in terms of years, not games.
By the way: the Dodgers won the game 8-2, while the Red Sox fell 10-9 to the Royals in 12 innings.
