Deadspin posted this fantastic video today lamenting the Indians awful last few years of baseball, focusing on the franchise acquiring over the hill players, re-signing the oft-injured Grady Sizemore, and not even making an attempt to lock up CC Sabathia and Cliff Lee with long-term extensions after both won the AL Cy Young award.
The video is a parody of this video posted at the beginning of last season by MLB.com, focusing on the history of the franchise and completely ignoring what's going on currently with the team. It's worth noting that the parody video has more than twice as many views on Youtube as the original. The parody has been up for six days, and the original has been up for 16 months.
It's sad to see a once proud franchise reduced to this, a never-ending cycle of rebuilding seasons with an ill-fated playoff chase or two mixed in there to set the team back another season or two. Some of the Indians fans I know are simply confused as to what direction the franchise needs to go in order to compete, and that's not a place any team wants to be: not good enough to contend, not bad enough to blow it all up and start over.
