The longest home runs for the week ending April 9th

With the season underway, it’s now time to bring back one of my favorite features at TOC – the longest home runs of the week!

To summarize things quickly, each Friday, I’ll bring you videos of the five longest homers from Friday-Thursday. We’ll also track the five longest homers of the year, and the players who have the most appearances in the top five each week. At the end of the season, we’ll crown our grand champion, who gets nothing but praise.

Last year, Giancarlo Stanton stood tall with eight appearances on The List, and Mike Trout’s 489 foot smash off of Jason Vargas was the season’s longest homer.

Without any further ado, here’s the first edition of The List.

1. Carlos Gonzalez vs Jonathan Broxton, 461 feet (April 8th)

WOW. This wasn’t just a typical early season homer that’s on the list because there’s nothing else – CarGo absolutely *murdered* this ball.

2. Jose Abreu vs Yordano Ventura, 439 feet (April 6th)

Into the fountains at Kauffman? That’s not fair. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more Jose Abreu on THE LIST this season.

3. David Peralta vs Ryan Vogelsong, 437 feet (April 7th)

Peralta sure put a charge into this one. Because of how huge that right field seating section is at Chase Field, homers hit there don’t look all that long, but this was a blast by Peralta.

4. Evan Longoria vs Chris Tillman, 432 feet (April 6th)

This homer from Longoria wasn’t exactly jaw dropping, but it sure did have some distance.

5. Edwin Encarnacion vs Esmil Rogers, 431 feet (April 9th)

This blast from E5 very nearly made it to the bleachers. Just a couple of feet short.
