In the Phillies’ 3-2 win over the Pirates on Wednesday, Domonic Brown hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Good for him. It’s a Spring Training homer, but whatever.
But when Brown homered, the Phillies were already winning 3-2. And it was the bottom of the ninth. Huh? Something’s off here. I’ll let the Phillies’ website explain what happened.
John Holdzkom and Stolmy Pimentel each tossed scoreless frames for the Pirates, who sent Brad Lincoln out for the bottom of the ninth to get work — even though the game was declared over after the top of the ninth. Lincoln allowed a homer to Domonic Brown, but the stats for the bottom of the ninth will not officially count.
Congratulations, Domonic. You hit a homer in a Spring Training game, which means next to nothing. But even that wasn’t enough – you had to hit it in a half inning that wasn’t official and didn’t matter. It’s the most meaningless dinger ever!
