Previous post: A three-way trade is in the works that would net the Yankees a possible replacement for Derek Jeter at shortstop – Didi Gregorius. The three-way deal would send Shane Greene from New York to Detroit, a couple of pitchers from Detroit to Arizona, and Gregorius from the desert to the Big Apple.

Gregorius, who will turn 25 in February, was acquired by the Diamondbacks before the 2013 season in a disastrous three-way trade that resulted in them losing Trevor Bauer to the Indians. In his major league career, which included eight games with the Reds in 2012, he’s hit .243/.313/.366 in 191 games. His defense at short is thought of as a highlight, but the advanced metrics don’t support that conclusion in a small sample size.
Greene just turned 26, and turned in a solid rookie season this past year for New York. In 15 appearances (14 starts), Green tossed 78 2/3 innings, striking out 81, walking 29, and pitching to a 3.78 ERA. He was expected to be a part of a Yankees rotation that had plenty of questions because of the uncertain health of C.C. Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda, and Ivan Nova.
One of the names that could be heading to Arizona? Robbie Ray, who the Tigers just acquired a year ago in the disastrous Doug Fister trade.

The 23-year old Ray had an uninspiring major league debut in 2014, pitching to an unsightly 8.16 ERA in 28 2/3 innings, striking out 19 and walking 11. He was better in AAA, tossing 100 1/3 innings while striking out 75, walking 44, and notching a 4.22 ERA.
