Evan Longoria exits Monday’s game with left knee injury

Evan Longoria made his second attempt to reach his 2011 steals total (3) on Monday night, but his left knee prevented him from getting there.

Longoria was caught stealing for the third time this year and injured his knee in the process, forcing him to exit early from the Rays’ 3-2 win over the Mariners on Monday night.

There isn’t much to update as to the extent of the injury, but he will undergo further testing on Tuesday, [via the Tampa Bay Times]:

Longoria is “a little bit sore behind the knee,” manager Joe Maddon said, and will undergo further testing, and likely an MRI, on Tuesday.

“It’s kind of a day to day gig right now so we’ll find out more when he comes in tomorrow,” Maddon said.

Longoria left the stadium and didn’t talk to the media.

If Longoria is forced to endure a stint on the DL, the Rays could slide Sean Rodriguez over to third and call up Reid Brignac to play short. Or the Rays could call up their Triple-A third baseman Matt Mangini to face his former team. For what it’s worth, Brignac is hitting just .118/.154/.314 in the minors while Mangini is hitting a not-much-better .152/.243/.395.
