The Washington Nationals are heading back to October. By virtue of a 3-0 win in Atlanta over the Braves on Tuesday night, the Nationals clinched their second NL East championship in three seasons.
Even sweeter for the team must be the fact that the clinched the title at Turner Field. A year ago, the Braves won the NL East, shocking a Nationals team that was a chic World Series pick before the season.
The Nationals await their NL Division Series opponent. At present, they have the best record in the National League, which would let them face the winner of the NL Wild Card playoff game. But with both the Dodgers and Cardinals hot on their heels, nothing is a guarantee for Washington.
They’re the second team to clinch a playoff berth, following the Angels on Monday night.
