Only two more weeks of walk offs remaining following this one…how depressing. The White Sox did their damnedest to stave off elimination with their late inning antics this week, and the Yankees were on both the giving and receiving end of some walk off magic.
September 8th, Rockies vs Mets
The anti-climactic, bases loaded, walk off sac fly. Hey, the Mets will take whatever wins they can get.
September 8th, Athletics vs White Sox
Tyler Flowers ties the game in the ninth, and wins it in the 11th with this walk off bomb against Jesse Chavez. Hearing Hawk Harrelson go crazy after a walk off is always fun – unless your team is on the other side of the walk off, of course.
September 11th, Rays vs Yankees
Chris Young had such a terrible year with the Mets. He joins the Yankees, and immediately becomes some sort of cult hero. Hitting a walk off homer when your team was getting no-hit just an inning earlier is simply unreal.
September 12th, Yankees vs Orioles
Baltimore just keeps getting contributions from unexpected places, and a two-run, pinch hit, walk off double from Jimmy Paredes on the day Chris Davis gets suspended for Adderall is up there with most unexpected hits of the season.
September 12th, Marlins vs Phillies
Cody Asche doesn’t have much power. But he picked the right time to launch his tenth homer of the year – it gave the Phillies a walk off win over the Marlins.
September 12th, Reds vs Brewers
The Brewers are just collapsing down the stretch, and they need every win they can get, walk off or not. Lyle Overbay doing the damage is just another blast from the past in this bizarre season.
September 13th, Twins vs White Sox
Who’s the big hero for Chicago? It wasn’t Jose Abreu, though Abreu did have an awesome game – it was Dayan Viciedo, who launched this titanic walk off homer to send the Sox to a big victory and a doubleheader sweep over the Twins.
September 14th, Yankees vs Orioles
What a wacky and wild win for the Orioles. Two walk off wins over the Yankees in one weekend? Yeah, I’m sure they’ll take that. Neither Kelly Johnson nor Jimmy Paredes was an Oriole at the beginning of the year, and here they both are, coming up with huge hits in September.
