Pete Rose is starring in a new Sketchers commercial, with plenty of tongue in cheek references about “the hall”. From the moment the commercial begins, you know exactly what’s going on, but that doesn’t make it any less effective.

Sure…the hall in Rose’s home. That’s exactly what we’re talking about here. Clever commercial, but it’s a little too on the nose for me. Besides, in the year 2014, how many people buying Sketchers even care about Pete Rose? This isn’t Clyde Frazier shilling Just For Men.
Maybe with Rob Manfred coming into power in January, we’ll get a definitive answer about Rose and the Hall of Fame so he doesn’t need to resort to shoe company commercials to keep his name out there. Hey, at least it wasn’t filmed on the streets of Cooperstown.
