The USA Today reported on Tuesday morning that the Arizona Diamondbacks’ current plan was to bring back their skipper Kirk Gibson for at least a sixth season in 2015, which if true, would show Arizona’s content with mediocrity. The Diamondbacks’ chief baseball officer Tony La Russa, through a spokesman, called the USA Today’s report inaccurate, though.
It’s certainly possible La Russa already has a plan, and that plan might indeed be to bring back Gibson, but would he really feel the need to have to issue a denial through a spokesman if that were the case?
Maybe.
After all, he did just say the day before that he has no plans one way or the other, yet [via MLB.com]:
“I don’t think the timing for each of those has to coincide,” La Russa said. “I just think that at this point, we’re at Aug. 18, I’ve been around three months, I’ve observed a lot, talked to and met with a lot of people in the organization. I have a much better idea. I just think the official comment is, we’re at Aug. 18, the season is a month and 10 days from being over. So it won’t be long until you have to trot out your plan officially.”
Hmm.
