While the way it happened was actually related to baseball, the reason that Hyun-Jin Ryu was placed on the disabled list on Friday is one that’ll make some fans giggle like children – he was two strained muscles in his right buttock.
From ESPN LA:
Ryu was injured while pitching Wednesday night in Atlanta. He threw a 3-and-2 ball to B.J. Upton and immediately summoned trainer Stan Conte. The Dodgers will replace Ryu in the rotation with Kevin Correia, the pitcher they acquired from the Minnesota Twins last week.
An MRI examined by team physician Neal ElAttrache showed Grade 1-2 strains of the gluteus medius and piriformis muscles. The team was awaiting the arrival of a reliever from Triple-A, likelyPedro Baez, before making the official roster move.
The good news for the Dodgers? Ryu isn’t expected to miss the rest of the season. However, if the injuries were more serious than expected, it should would be a pain in the ass for the Dodgers down the stretch.
Sorry. It was too easy.
