It took 12 innings and six at bats, but Cubs prospect Javier Baez officially welcomed himself to the big-league scene with a big opposite-field blast off Boone Logan to put the Chicago Cubs up 6-5 over the Colorado Rockies. The Cubs would win by the same score.
Here’s a fun fact about Baez’s extra-innings home run:
Javier Baez is first player to hit extra-inning HR in MLB Debut since Miguel Cabrera (walkoff) 6/20/2003
— Christopher Kamka (@ckamka) August 6, 2014
Baez was 1-for-6 with three strikeouts in his debut, but I doubt anybody remembers the other five at bats in the promising years to come.
