If there was one player on the St. Louis Cardinals you’d call indispensable, you’d probably say that it’s Yadier Molina. Thus, the news that Molina will miss 8-12 weeks due to a torn ligament in his thumb is very bad news for St. Louis.
There are a lot of indispensable players in baseball. Yadier Molina may be at the top of that list. Out 2-3 months with torn thumb ligament.

The only other catchers on the Cardinals’ 40-man roster are long-time backup Tony Cruz, who has a .238/.282/.326 career line in 161 games, and Audry Perez, hitting .288/.288/.382 in 44 games with AAA Memphis this season.
Needless to say, the Cardinals may suddenly be interested in acquiring a catcher this month.
