On Friday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mike Trout did something pornographic to a baseball.
ESPN is calling it at 489 feet, which would be the longest hit in the majors since Giancarlo Stanton hit a 494 foot bomb in 2012. If that number seems a little off to you, it’s been confirmed by ESPN’s Hit Tracker, which is what we use every week for our longest homers of the week feature (and you’ll be seeing this hoer by Trout in next week’s edition).
This homer by Trout is such a massive blast. It cleared the batter’s eye in center field, which is a good 30 or so feet high and more than 410 feet from home plate. Yeah…let’s go ahead and put this in our ledger as the longest homer of the first half (even with a couple of weeks left), and possibly, the longest homer of the 2014 season.
