During Friday night’s Braves-Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies are doing something cool. Their three-man broadcast booth of Tom McCarthy, Jamie Moyer, and Matt Stairs is stationed in the center field seats for the evening. Where the broadcasters are located is in firing range for home run balls, and that’s exactly what happened in the first inning when Freddie Freeman smashed a three-run bomb off of Kyle Kendrick.
The home run ball was caught (with one hand, mind you) by McCarthy, who then gave in to the wishes of the Phillie faithful and threw the ball back onto the field. I normally hate when fans throw home run balls back, but this was a thing of beauty.
