We interrupt your daily brigade of silliness for some somber news – Don Zimmer, a baseball man in every sense of the phrase, has passed away at the age of 83. Zimmer had worked in baseball as a player, coach, or manager since 1949, and had been a senior adviser with the Rays since 2004.
There really isn’t much I can say about Zimmer without simply reciting his biography. He was the last living Brooklyn Dodgers to still work in the game of baseball. He was the 1989 NL Manager of the Year with the Cubs, and was a member of six World Championship teams, including serving as the bench coach for the New York Yankees during their run of four World Championships in five years in the late-90s. He worked for 13 different organizations during his illustrious career.
It goes without saying that Zimmer will be missed. He had an incredible life in baseball, and will be dearly missed.
